Lake Onda

Once the lake gifted fish and the river-trade thrived. The Western Kingdom knew peace and wealth then. That was before.

The Basilisks Demand occasionally calls for "a body drowned in Lake Onda." Adventure seed 9–10: "Children missing at Lake Onda."

Regional Fauna (Eat-Prey-Kill, p.10)

What the lake gives up now, instead of fish:

  • Cursed Trout — a hollow fish. Gutting one earns d6 days without sleep.
  • Rusty Bass — eats metal, tastes of metal. DR12 Toughness on eating or get "deathetanus." HP 2, Morale —.
  • The Groan — a sound like a weary tree in wind, only the wind stops near it. HP 18, Morale —. Defence rolled with Presence, not Agility. Armor will not save you.
  • Carcasswan — mates for life. The survivor eats its dead partner and gains a taste for flesh. Run before it sees you. Lone: HP 15, Bite/Claws d8. Pair: HP 5 each, Bite d6.
  • Unresting Duck — dies in the air. Has made them very skilled at flying. DR16 to hit. HP 2, Morale 7, Beak d4.
  • Sursturgeon — ferments while still alive. Terrible tasting, terrible smelling. Eventually dies, improving nothing. HP 4, Morale —.
Gaps / Expansion Notes

The cause of the lake's souring is unstated — the trade collapse, the missing children, the hollow trout, the Groan all gesture at something rotten under the water but no single source names it. A drowned god? A buried Misery? The river's outflow toward the Western Kingdom suggests the rot travels.
