Nechrubel

The shadow that covers all. Not a creature you meet — a condition. Nechrubel is melancholy. He is crop failure. He is conflict, war, and the long whisper that bent Verhu's ear into prophecy. He is the only canonical entity who shapes the world through the Two-Headed Basilisk faith without being part of it.

What He Does

• He whispers. The Nameless Scriptures are his whisper at second hand: Nechrubel → Verhu → Anuk Schleger. The Calendar bears his name because the apocalypse is his idea.
• He bargains. Josilfa Migol — arch-priestess of Galgenbeck, old but still young — "colludes with him, who gave her eternal life." Terms unwritten. She rules from a cool black chamber under the Cathedral of the Two-Headed Basilisks. He gets something. She gets unending years.
• He sends underlings. Daejmon, his left underling, sunders the Veil at Misery 6:6 "so the unnamed may enter the earth." His right underling is never named. There are two; only one has been spoken aloud.
• He has worshippers. Bedeviled Dungeons adventure seed, p.71 entry 2: "Nechrubel-worshipping lich with a skeletal court." The only canonical hint that anyone prays directly to him rather than through Verhu.

How He Appears in Scenes

Almost never directly. Nechrubel is a force the PCs meet through:

• The Calendar — daily die rolls that flip the world toward 7:7.
• The arch-priestess he keeps young.
• His underling Daejmon tearing the Veil at 6:6.
• The dead-and-undying — liches whose skeletal courts kneel to him directly, outside the Two-Headed Basilisk hierarchy.
• The Goddess of Fat and Plenty line ("Nechrubel is melancholy") — he is named where misery, famine, and despair are.

He is the god of doing nothing, in the sense that he is what fills the spaces where good things stopped happening.

Relationships as Actor

• Above (peer): Yetsabu-Nech (the black disk at 7:7). Source does not say Nechrubel commands Yetsabu-Nech — both are end-state apocalyptic entities, possibly the same thing under two names.
• Beneath (mouthpiece): Verhu (Nechrubel whispered the prophecies into his ear).
• Bound to him: Josilfa Migol (life-for-collusion bargain); Daejmon (left underling); unnamed right underling.
• Worshipped directly by: the Nechrubel-worshipping lich (p.71 seed 2) and his skeletal court — somewhere out there.
