Verhu
See lore entry: Verhu (in wiki/lore/) for cosmology, prophecy, and the Two-Headed Basilisks faith. This page covers Verhu as an active presence in play — his demands, his interventions, and what petitioners actually do at his altar.
The head of Prophecy atop HE's body. Loud. Full of himself. The only basilisk who has ever been right, and he has been right every single time. His clergy — the Two-Headed Basilisks — rule Galgenbeck in his name. His tithe-piles are gold-gift mountains. He hungers for new temples and accepts strange tributes.
What He Does
- He prophesies. Through the Nameless Scriptures transcribed by Anuk Schleger in 565. Every prophecy has come true. The world is currently following them, verse by verse, on the Calendar of Nechrubel.
- He whispers. Nechrubel is said to whisper into Verhu's ear; Verhu whispered to Schleger. Whether he still whispers to anyone alive is GM-judgment.
- He receives. Pilgrims plumb the crypts of the Valley of the Unfortunate Undead "believing they can persuade him of other fates" (Bare Bones p.16). Some leave gifts and sacrifices to a power they cannot comprehend.
- He demands. Per adventure seed 69–70: "HE demands a gift. See it delivered." The gift is unspecified. The delivery is the adventure.
- He gloats. At 7:7, the final Misery: "All praise Verhu, beaming with delight!" — the only time the canon shows him reacting to anything. He greets the end laughing.
How He Appears in Scenes
Verhu is not a creature you meet in a corridor. He is one of the two heads of HE and shares a body with Gorgh in the Valley crypts. He is approached, not encountered. Petitioners go to him. Sacrifices are left at his altar. His clergy interpret his will from Anuk Schleger's transcriptions and the daily roll of the Calendar of Nechrubel.
A Heretical Priest (origin 4) starts the game already trying to talk him out of the apocalypse. Adventure seed 21–22 — "Verhu's prophecy is false!" — opens that door from the GM's side.
Relationships as Actor
- Above: Nechrubel (whisperer). The Two-Headed Basilisks worship Verhu; Verhu listens to Nechrubel.
- Beside: Gorgh (twin head, Envy — rots beside him resentful that only Verhu knows the truth).
- Beneath: Josilfa Migol (arch-priestess, Galgenbeck); the Inquisition (his enforcement arm); Anuk Schleger (his stenographer, dead 300 years and counting).
- Hunts: Heretical Priests who would unmake his predictions.

No stat block — Verhu is not statted as a combatant in any surveyed PDF. Whether his head can be approached separately from Gorgh (same body, opposite mood), and what happens if you actually find him in the Valley crypts, is unwritten. The "strange tributes" he demands have no canonical table. Whether the Two-Headed Basilisks clergy speaks to him or only for him is open. Adventure-seed 21–22 is the one published hook that says yes, you can try to make him wrong.
