Two-Headed Basilisks

The basilisks are two and two-headed. The four heads have argued for hundreds of years.

SHE crawled from the cracks of Bergen Chrypt when the world was but water, dust, and clouds thick with plague-fat flies. She bears the head of Denial — Lusi — and the head of Deception — Arkh — and she spawned many basilisks since the dawn of time, casting them down the cliffs.

Only HE survived. Down in the Valley of the Unfortunate Undead he turned and gazed up at the peak where she dwelt and spat out curses upon his evil mother. He bears the head of Envy — Gorgh — bitter that only his twin Verhu, the head of Prophecy, knows the damned truth.

Verhu was right once. Then twice. Then always. Of the four heads he is the most worshipped, full of himself and hungering for new temples. The mortal Two-Headed Basilisks — an orthodox branch of the Creton Order — uncovered Anuk Schleger's lost transcriptions of Verhu's whispers and built their faith upon them. They now hold Galgenbeck under the throne of arch-priestess Josilfa Migol, and their Inquisition hunts heretics and apostates and corrects them, in public and at length.

The four heads are not symbols. They live, they argue, and the world dies as Verhu predicted.
