Pale One
You lurk on the fringes of settlements, observing, perhaps judging, but rarely interacting. You are fundamentally other and belong nowhere. You've had bouts of incoherent madness and self-destructive rages, but mostly you simply wait, in solitary resignation, for that which is inevitable.
- Begins with: d6×10s and d4 Omens.
- HP: Toughness + d6.
- Abilities: +1 Agility and Presence, but bones are hollow and fragile — −2 Toughness.
- Literacy: Literate only in dead languages, cannot use scrolls. Instead, can intuitively use one randomly rolled Power. The Power changes each dawn, or dusk (pick one).
- Roll d6 on the weapon table and d2 on the armor table.
Unspoken origins (d6):
- Caught by fishermen on the Endless Sea.
- Accidentally summoned by cultists in Graven-Tosk.
- Vomited forth by a foul beast in Bergen Chrypt.
- Fell from the sky near Alliáns.
- Hatched from an egg laid by a bog-witch in a Western Kingdom swamp.
- Crawled out of a crack in the ground not far from Grift.
Pale One blessings (d6):
- The Stars Were Right — roll d4+2 for omens. Say something cryptic every time you use one.
- Membranous Wings — fly short distances; cannot wear armor; birds dislike you.
- Uncommon Clay — draw nourishment from soil; normal food makes you sick; you smell like mushrooms.
- Mana From Somewhere — spend a Powers use to create d6 people's food. Weirdly delicious, but unsettling.
- Digitigrade Limbs — escape any binding, fit through tiny spaces, flexibility tests −4 DR.
- Too Many Eyes — way too many. Cannot be surprise-attacked. Spend a Powers use to leave an eye behind and spy on a remote area. If anyone squishes the eye you take d2 damage.
You call yourself... (3d20) — three columns of descriptors that compose a name: (1) adjective + (2) verb + (3) noun-with-article. Example draws yield names like Skeletal Drowns the Flies or Lyrical Echoes the Saint. Full table runs 20×20×20.
Endless Sea, Graven-Tosk, Bergen Chrypt, Alliáns, Western Kingdom, Grift, Outcasts (the Pale One outcast is a parallel encounter-version of this class)
The "bog-witch" of origin 5 is one of several witch-figures (Bark-Witch, Swamp Witch) — the canonical bog-witch is unnamed and unlocated. What the Pale Ones actually are at root (offshoots? aliens? misbirthed children of SHE?) is never resolved.
