Lore

Verhu

The head of Prophecy. One of two heads borne by HE, the surviving basilisk-spawn cast from the cliffs of Bergen Chrypt who turned and cursed his mother SHE from the floor of the Valley of the Unfortunate Undead. His twin head is Gorgh, rotted with envy that only Verhu knows the truth.

Verhu predicts inexorable annihilation, and since he is always right he has become utterly full of himself. The whispers he gave to the monk Anuk Schleger became the Nameless Scriptures — every prophecy fulfilled in turn. He has eclipsed all other faiths and his clergy, the Two-Headed Basilisks, rule from Galgenbeck.

It is said Nechrubel whispered the apocalyptic prophecies into Verhu's ear in the first place. Verhu loves his position. He hungers for temples in his name and demands strange tributes (see The Basilisks Demand).

At 7:7 Verhu will beam with delight as Yetsabu-Nech stands before the sun.

Gaps / Expansion Notes

Whether Verhu can be petitioned, fooled, or persuaded by the Heretical Priest who hopes to avert the end is unanswered. Adventure seed 21–22 ("Verhu's prophecy is false!") opens that door. The exact mechanism by which Nechrubel "whispered to him" is undefined.
