Dead God's Prophet
You hear voices in your head, telling you what to do. Or at least you think you do. You are the prophet of a god; only your god is dead, slain by the Basilisk SHE within the wretched peaks of Bergen Chrypt. Now no one wants to hear the words of your god. But you can still hear them. Day and night. Like hot wires through your brain.
- Begins with: 1d6×5s and d3 Omens.
- HP: Toughness + d4.
- Abilities: Obsessed — 3d6+2 Presence. Weak through lack of care for bodily functions — 3d6−2 Toughness.
- Roll d4 on the weapon table and d2 on the armor table.
- Literacy: You are literate and can use scrolls, but must pass a Presence DR12 test when encountering them not to immediately attempt to destroy them as words of false gods. If you start with a scroll, consider that you passed the test.
- Roll randomly for two gifts from your dead god.
Name your god... (3d10): three columns — adjective + title + dread-domain — e.g. Häil, King of panic or Öde, Song of the flesh. Sample roll: Acrophoe Beacon of blood; Elioch Bearer of death; Ekk Bride of decay; Ghzat Child of flies; Gnost Herald of impotence; Häil King of panic; Kvera Lady of rot; Malais Prince of rust; Varkka Queen of unease; Öde Song of the flesh.
Two gifts (d8):
- Blood Tells. Flagellant — beat yourself before combat (d3 self-damage) for +2 to a number of rolls equal to HP lost.
- Lord of Nothing. Bizarre kingly garb — +2 to rolls to impress the easily fooled.
- Smell of Decay. Tests to defend against attacks +2 due to gut-wrenching stench.
- Incoherent Sophistic Babble. Listeners test Presence DR10 or lose next action.
- Ichor of Rot. Black stigmata — DR12 attack to wipe hands on bare skin; victim Toughness DR12 or frothing spasms for two turns.
- My Body, A Vessel. Once a day let your god's ghost enter you; ask the GM one yes/no question they must answer truthfully. You are then left weakened and frail.
- In Death I Live. When you die, Presence DR14 — pass and your god refuses you the afterlife and you recover with 1 HP. Fail and your body is consumed in holy flames.
- Eyes of Holy Fire. Pupils burn — once per combat, fire attack from eyes (DR10) d6 damage; blinded for the rest of the fight.
SHE, Bergen Chrypt, Heretical Priest (parallel hunted-prophet archetype), Forlorn Philosopher (parallel listened-too-long archetype)
The 100 possible god-names generated by the table are not given individual lore; each is a hook. SHE's god-slaying spree in Bergen Chrypt is canonical and entirely unmapped — how many gods? When? Why? An entire god-graveyard adventure waits there.
