HE
See lore entry: HE (in wiki/lore/) for cosmology, parentage, and the Verhu/Gorgh body. This page covers HE as an active presence in play — his crypts, his demands, his pilgrims.
The basilisk who survived. SHE cast every spawn down the cliffs of Bergen Chrypt and HE crawled away. He bears two heads — Verhu (Prophecy) and Gorgh (Envy) — and he coils in the crypts of the Valley of the Unfortunate Undead, eyes locked upon the mountain peak where his mother lives, spitting curses for centuries.
If anything in canon is a place that is a creature, it is HE. Adventure modules treat him as a destination.
What He Does
- He demands. Adventure seed 69–70: "HE demands a gift. See it delivered." This is the only canonical adventure hook for HE-as-actor. The gift is unspecified. The crypts of the Valley are the address. The delivery is whatever the GM makes it.
- He receives pilgrims. Bare Bones p.16: "Others plumb the crypts seeking Verhu, believing they can persuade him of other fates. Some simply and stupidly leave gifts and sacrifices to a power they cannot comprehend." HE is the body. Verhu is the mouth. The pilgrims do not always understand the distinction.
- He kills onlookers. "A sight infrequently survived." Whether the death is a basilisk-stare in the classical sense, or the slow Valley undeath claiming pilgrims who never make it back, is left ambiguous.
- He hates SHE. Continuously. His position in the Valley is chosen for the angle of view — he can stare up at Bergen Chrypt's peak and curse her.
How He Appears in Scenes
HE is a location-encounter. Approaching HE means:
- Traveling into the Valley of the Unfortunate Undead — soil that drags travelers into the Realm of the Dead, air that brings "sleepless, stumbling death," gloom growing over everything.
- Descending into the crypts. Source does not map them.
- Reaching the basilisk. Facing both heads at once — Verhu who will prophesy, Gorgh who will curse and demand metal.
- Surviving the audience. (Most do not.)
The "gift" of seed 69–70 frames a whole module: who commissioned the gift, what HE actually requires, what happens to the courier when they arrive.
Relationships as Actor
- Mother: SHE — cursed eternally; HE is the only spawn who survived the cliffs.
- Heads (he is both): Verhu (Prophecy), Gorgh (Envy). His body cannot be petitioned separately from either head.
- Half-sibling: Akünh (also a spawn of SHE, though by the Death-Realm parent rather than the cliffs).
- Worshippers: The Two-Headed Basilisks worship Verhu through HE's body. Gorgh-faithful (unnamed) leave gold to the other head. Pilgrims to the Valley plead with HE for "other fates."
- Hunts: No one. HE does not move. The world comes to him.

No stat block. No description of HE's body distinct from the two heads atop it. The Valley crypts are unmapped. The "gift" of seed 69–70 has no canonical content — it is one of the most expansion-friendly hooks in Bare Bones. Whether HE can be slain, and what happens to Verhu's prophecies if so, is the doomsday question canon refuses to answer.
