Hamfund the Squire
An intensely cowardly servant. His only true duty is guardian of the scabbard of the cursed sword Eurekia. Once per combat — if Ham can be found — Eurekia may be drawn from his keeping. Every swing of the blade carries a 1-in-6 chance the squire is slain and Eurekia vanishes forever.
Ham hides in cellars, behind drapes, beneath wagons. He hides when called for. He hides when the sword is needed. The scabbard does not weigh much. It weighs enough.
Gaps / Expansion Notes
Ham knows what the sword does to its bearers and to him. Whether he chose the duty or had it placed on him is unwritten. His "small chance of death per swing" makes him the most disposable retainer in the realm and the only thing standing between the royal line and a final, scabbardless sword.
